I am pleased to inform our readers that in addition to publishing the Huntington Quarterly, we have recently launched two new magazines: Marshall Magazine and Gateway West Virginia. The new publications are the result of a public-private partnership between Marshall University and H.Q. Publishing Co., the parent company of the Huntington Quarterly. The venture is intended to: a) unite the region between Huntington and Charleston known today as “Advantage Valley,” and b) promote the critical presence of Marshall University in this growing sector of the state.
The name Gateway West Virginia was chosen to represent the idea that the Advantage Valley corridor between Huntington and Charleston is the “gateway” to the state of West Virginia. With the presence of Interstate 64, the state’s two largest cities, the economic boom in Putnam County and Marshall University, this 60 mile region is poised for tremendous growth and change in the next millennium.
The Marshall title will be mailed to 20,000 Marshall University alumni and/or contributors living in Advantage Valley while the Gateway West Virginiatitle will be sent to 5,000 business leaders working in the same region. The editorial focus of the publications will include business, education and lifestyle features. At the heart of both magazines will be Marshall University, the state’s fastest growing institution for higher learning. With the school’s proven ability to effectuate change in the region in recent years, Marshall will be a key part of both publications.
It is my hope that these new magazines will see the same kind of growth that is occurring throughout the region. But, most importantly, I hope these editorial ventures contribute to a stronger alliance and sense of cooperation between Huntington and Charleston. Working together, the Advantage Valley area and Marshall University can emerge as a united, progressive front with a common vision of the future. To begin receiving these new magazines, call Marshall University Alumni Development at (304) 696-6440, and for a donation of $25.00 or more, you will be permanently added to the MU mailing list.
