HQ 44 | SPRING 2002
This fall, the Huntington Quarterly enters its 14th year in the magazine game. To date, we have published 44 editions of HQ, printed some 220,000 copies of the magazine and written articles spanning well over 3,300 pages. It’s been tough at times, yet always a labor of love.
What some of our readers may not know is that the Huntington Quarterly is part of a publishing company. In 1999 we were approached by Marshall University and asked to assist them in publishing their alumni magazine. As a result, we formed H.Q. Publishing Co., and for the last three years have been the publisher of the Marshall Magazine, a 52 page full color magazine that reaches 70,000 university alumni nationwide. This past spring we were awarded a 10 year contract by the State of West Virginia to continue publishing the official magazine of Marshall University. Our staff, which consists of three proud Marshall grads, was thrilled about the opportunity to continue working with the finest university in the state …
In 2000, HQ signed a contract to begin publishing the Genesis Magazine for the Genesis Hospital System which consisted of Cabell Huntington, St. Mary’s and Pleasant Valley Hospitals. We released three issues of the full color publication before the health care entity dissolved last year. Despite the loss of Genesis, we were recently given the opportunity to begin publishing a new magazine for St. Mary’s Hospital. St. Mary’s Today will be a quality, full color publication that reaches health conscious readers throughout our community.
In addition to those projects, HQ plans to publish its first ever calendar this fall. The full color piece will showcase the finest photography of the Huntington area from our extensive files here at the magazine. To order an advance copy of this high quality calendar, call us at (304) 529-6158 or see our advertisement on page 71.
So, as you can see, there’s more to HQ than just HQ. But no matter which publication or special project we undertake, our staff remains committed to the high standards of quality that have earned us a reputation for excellence. As my father always said, “If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”
