A Style for All Ages

HQQ 91 | FALL 2015

This issue is a celebration of not only the arrival of Fall/Winter Fashion 2015 (FW15), but also to being fabulous at any age. Styling for FW15 this year is all about experimenting with mixed prints, rich textures and letting past decades provide all the inspiration. Designers flaunt opulent, complex fabrics such as lavish jacquard looms, lurex, embroidered velvets and high-neck lace blouses to showcase a modern Victorian era in runways such as Givenchy, Valentino and Alberta Ferretti. Others, such as Miu Miu, Chanel and Balenciaga, play with frayed tweed fabrics and clashing prints with bold complementary colors to entertain a fun, vintage ’50s vibe; bringing the classic houndstooth print and cocoon coats back to center stage as a favorite fall trend. There is no denying that the fashion world is reliving memories of past times, yet one decade in particular continues to be very influential – the ’70s. Jill Stuart, Rebecca Minkoff, Burberry Prorsum and Zimmerman (one of my favorites) are just a few of the handfuls of designers that use lots of suede, fringe and smart color blocking choices to exude a modern ’70s vibe that would inspire even Mary Tyler Moore.

Needless to say, FW15 fashion has something for everyone. The women who are featured in this issue are the quintessential females of their time, proving that great style and confidence is a powerful force for a lifetime. All of these fashionistas are dedicated shoppers at Village Collection boutique, a downtown Huntington clothing institution, which they give credit to for helping them stay up-to-date on trends and finding key staple pieces to add to their wardrobes.

“I have shopped in Village Collection for over 30 years. I love that they have everything: clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses and undies,” Marta Leach said.

“The staff is beyond helpful and I always feel like family when I am there,” Marie Bartholomew said.

The following photos showcase looks that can all be purchased from Village Collection (VC) boutique. I hope you enjoy this unique edition of HQ Fashion as much as we did producing it. I want to give a special thanks to the fabulous women who participated, and especially to Tina Booten for letting us photograph inside her beautiful home. Until next time, always be kind.
