No matter how you use it, a kitchen is one of the, if not the, most important rooms in a home. It is more than simply a space used to prepare meals. It is where experiences are shared, memories are made and, of course, food is enjoyed.
After consulting with local kitchen and bath design companies, we’ve composed a list – per their suggestions but in no particular order – of ten of the most outstanding kitchens in the city.
Those featured highlight an array of personal tastes. Some designs are more traditional in nature. Others lean more modern. Some feature pops of color. Others stick to a more neutral scheme. Each, though, is unique to the home of which it is a part.
THE ADAMS KITCHEN (Kitchens By Woody’s): To achieve the desired blend of traditional and contemporary styles, the Adamses included three different colors – including a bold blue – in the design of their kitchen.
THE HUGH KITCHEN (Ackenpucky): From hosting guests and teaching friends culinary techniques to spending quality time with their children, the Hughs say the kitchen truly is the heart of their home.
THE HUTCHISON KITCHEN (Creative Kitchens): The Hutchison kitchen, with its open floor plan that offers ample space for seating, is a relaxing room perfectly suited for gatherings of all sizes.
THE DUNN-MARSHALL KITCHEN (Creative Kitchens): Vicki Dunn-Marshall pays her respects to modern appliances through her kitchen, which includes a double-drawer dishwasher, double-oven range and under-the-counter microwave drawer unit.
THE D’ANTONI KITCHEN (Kitchens By Woody’s): It might not be Kelly green, but the brightly colored backsplash in the D’Antoni kitchen helps the Thundering Herd coach feel right at home.
MARSHALL PRESIDENT’S HOME KITCHEN (Chandler’s Kitchens): Classic elegance meets functionality in the kitchen of this historic, 1920s Greek Revival home, currently occupied by Dr. Jerome Gilbert and his family.
THE MOORE KITCHEN (Kitchens By Woody’s): After replacing the original cabinets and removing the peninsula, Holly Moore says her family’s kitchen no longer feels small, even with the addition of appliances.
THE DENNING KITCHEN (Kitchens by Classic): Since converting their kitchen to an open concept and adding a wall of cabinets, the Dennings say that they have more space than ever.
THE GIBSON KITCHEN (Creative Kitchens): With its inviting large bar, stainless pillars, contrasting cabinetry and unique lighting, the Gibson kitchen is not only stylish but also practical.
HUNTINGTON QUARTERLY DREAM HOME KITCHEN (Creative Kitchens): In 2006, the Huntington Quarterly worked with local contractors and vendors to build their vision of a dream home. The kitchen is an ideal blend of form and function and features white-wash cabinets, Madura Gold granite countertops and copper tile backsplash, as well as such high end appliances as a Sub-Zero refrigerator, Sub-Zero wine cooler, Wolf range and Asko dishwasher.
