10 Best Dressed Men In Huntington

By The Editors
HQ 39 | SUMMER 2000

Like many of the players on his team, Marshall University Head Basketball Coach Greg White has to suit up before every game. But White, described by friends as a true “clothes horse,” probably enjoys the process more than most. Sifting through his large closet, he has a variety of fine garments from which to choose. On this particular day, he reaches for a three-button, black and white pinstripe suit handmade in Italy by Mosso S. Maria. He then selects a white shirt from Parazino’s and an elegant silk tie by Novia that matches his suit fabric perfectly. Finally, he slips on a pair of alligator skin shoes by DEE before strapping on a silver timepiece by renowned Swiss watchmaker Rado. As he leaves his home and heads for the arena, he is confident with his game plan and his appearance. As they used to say in the good ol” days, he looks ‘smart.”

Greg White isn’t alone. There are a number of discriminating male dressers in the Huntington region who always look their best. They are respected for their good taste and sense of style. But who are among Huntington’s elite? Who are the 10 best dressed men in the community? To answer these questions, the editors at HQ spent several weeks polling people throughout the region including leading retailers, tailors, business professionals and, of course, an array of women. When the dust had finally settled, the following 10 names topped our informal survey of Huntington’s sharpest dressers. Are these gentleman the definitive group of Huntington’s best dressed? Well, that’s for you to decide …

If there’s one thing the 10 men on our list have in common, it’s knowing where to find quality apparel.

Jeweler Kirk Dodrill and Financial Consultant John Dorsey, for example, begin their shopping efforts in Huntington at George H. Wright’s. Both enjoy the large selection of renowned brands including Hickey Freeman, Samuelsohnm, Hart Shaffner & Marx and Tallia.

Others on our list also shop in the region but extend their search for fine clothing to other cities around the country. Dr. Richard Ansinelli is a frequent customer of Wright’s, but also enjoys perusing departments stores in New York and San Francisco. Meanwhile, Richard Blenko, president of Blenko Glass, travels as far as New York and London to sample the selection at Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrod’s and Nordstrom’s.

While Blenko is shopping abroad, attorney Marc Williams enjoys shopping in his office. A loyal customer of Tom James, Williams has the luxury of picking out fabrics and being fitted for custom-made suits and shirts by sales executives who call on him at his place of work.

Some of the men on our list are traditional in their tastes, others are more contemporary. Insurance Broker Brian Byard is widely-regarded as one of Huntington’s leading fashion plates. Byard prefers the look and feel of such famed designers as Ermenegildo Zegna, Armani, Hugo Boss and Versace. Attorney Dwight Staples also prefers the latest fashions which include bold colors and four and five-button suits.

The gentlemen who made our first-ever “10 Best Dressed” list have styles as varied as their backgrounds. Despite their individuality, they possess that elusive talent of knowing what looks best on them. And, after all, everyone knows that it’s better to look good than to feel good, darling.
